Christ Church

Appleton le Moors

The Parish Church of Appleton le Moors was built by the widow of local businessman and benefactor Joseph Shepherd in 1869. The architect was J L Pearson, RA who was famous for building Truro Cathedral.

John Betjeman described Christ Church as "a little gem among moorland churches". Its style is "French Gothic" and the distinctive spire is a prominent feature in the landscape, visible from the surrounding moors and as far away as Ana Cross above Rosedale.
